Knife blocks reinvented: rotating, magnetic and easy to clean
The traditional knife block has barely changed in decades, and it has two well-known flaws. The closed slots are almost impossible to clean, so they quietly collect crumbs and moisture right where the blades live, and a fixed block makes you reach and squint to find the knife you want by its handle.
A rotating block tackles the second problem directly. Spinning the whole holder brings each knife to the front in turn, so choosing a blade is a quick twist rather than a reach across a crowded rack. On a busy worktop that is a small convenience you feel every day.
Magnetic holding solves the first problem. Instead of dropping blades into sealed slots, strong magnets hold them in the open, where air can get to them so they dry properly between uses — and, crucially, where you can actually wipe the block clean. For anyone who has ever peered into a grubby slot they cannot reach, that is the real upgrade.
None of it means much without good knives, and here they are high-carbon Damascus-pattern blades at 56+ HRC on warm acacia wood handles, with a sharpener included. Treat the wood kindly — hand wash and dry rather than dishwasher — and you have a complete, genuinely usable set that also happens to look like a centrepiece.
